Action-Packed Red-Band Trailer for GRIDLOCKED with Stephen Lang, Dominic Purcell, and Vinnie Jones

action-packed-red-band-trailer-for-gridlocked-with-stephen-lang-dominic-purcell-and-vinnie-jones-social.jpg

I had no idea this action film Gridlocked even existed until a GT reader emailed me this red-band trailer for it. The trailer is insanely action-packed, and it looks like a hell of an entertaining movie that follows a former SWAT leader named David Hendrix and hard-partying movie star named Brody Walker who are on a ride-along together. That ride-along is cut short when a police training facility is attacked by a team of mercenaries. The trailer sure does a good job of getting you pumped up! The vibe of the film could be likened to The Raid, only without the insane martial arts.

The film has got a kickass cast that includes Dominic Purcell (Prison Break), Stephen Lang (Avatar), Vinnie Jones (Snatch) , Cody Hackman (Tapped Out), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, and Saul Rubinek (True Romance).

The movie will be released in the US on June 14th. I'm sure it will get a limited theatrical released and as well as a VOD release.

Artist Creates Concept Design for Captain Hydra

If you haven't been keeping up with Marvel comics, you probably aren't aware of the major change in Captain America's character. Turns out ol' Cap was really a Hydra mole all along! It's a pretty stupid twist that will likely be remembered as a dark mark on the character's long history, but maybe it'll take a good twist and surprise us all.

Despite mostly negative responses to the move, we're still seeing fan art for the change appear on the web. Twitter user BossLogic redesigned the suit from the films to see what it would look like with a new Hydra twist...

I'll be honest, he could probably do without the H on the forehead as it makes him look like the Henchman from Venture Bros, but other than that, not a bad look! I can just barely see the redesigned shield in the corner and would love a better look at that! Overall a great design!

Looks Like WESTWORLD Will Premiere in Fall 2016 After All

HBO's science fiction reboot series Westworld is back on to premiere in fall 2016. This comes after the news earlier this year that rewrites and difficulties pushed the show back to a mid-2017 release. Slashfilm says the delay was rumored to be caused by difficulties between HBO and writer Jonathan Nolan, and that the show was able to get back on track with the addition of two new writers and producers.

Westworld is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton film, and it looks pretty awesome if you watch the teaser! I hope it lives up to the hype!

People Are Making SIMPSONS Vaporwave Videos and It's Strangely Awesome

I know the memes, and I hear what the hip kids say about Vaporwave. For this reason, I stayed away from the musical genre in fear of being associated with "overhyped garbage." Last night my curiosity got the best of me when I learned there's a community of people creating artsy music videos for these songs using classic episodes from The Simpsons...

Be warned...it gets a bit trippy.

What started as a joke has now evolved into an art form. Just do a search for Simpsons Wave and you'll find an assload of videos to occupy an hour of your time...

Did Homer Simpson really do "purple drank" before rap culture claimed it?! I don't have the answers for that. What I do know is that I have an unhealthy obsession with these videos, and I wish I could be a little less lame. They are cool though, right?

BATMAN: DEAD END Director Sandy Collora Launches New Kickstarter for SHALLOW WATER

batman-dead-end-director-sandy-collora-launches-new-kickstarter-for-shallow-water

Sandy Collora, the man behind Batman: Dead End, one of the greatest fan films ever made, is developing an awesome-sounding new short film project called "Shallow Water." The movie is described as a “gritty, intense short film, introducing a new and terrifying aquatic creature.” This will be the first short in a retro horror/sci-fi anthology feature film that he will be developing over the next couple of years, and he's started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project.

I’m a huge fan of anthology films, and this sounds like it will be amazing! This is the kind of stuff I love to see get made, and with the level of talent that’s behind it, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s going to deliver something incredible! Below you'll find a synopsis and more information on the project:

An innocent adventure: a fishing trip to a remote and mythical fishing hole goes awry and becomes a terrifying predicament that keeps getting worse. Nestled deep in the Sea of Cortez is a tiny island you won't find on any map. Six fishermen scour the Baja peninsula to find this magical place, but when they finally reach their destination, they encounter some sea life that they did not expect. This puts them all at odds and it quickly becomes every man for himself. Which will prevail, Mother Nature or Human Nature?

Collora tried to Kickstart "Shallow Water" as a full-length feature film before. Unfortunately, he didn’t meet his goal. That’s ok, though, because he’s not giving up, and he’s restructured the project into something that could be even better. Collora offers a little back story of how this new version of the project came together.

“After months of thinking about how to relaunch this campaign and get this movie made, it was fellow artist and friend Mike Hill, who nailed the idea home for me. Many had suggested doing this film as a short, in the hopes of a producer or studio seeing it and perhaps wanting to fund the entire film, which does actually happen from time to time, but in my mind, I was over making short films, felt I'd made enough and wanted to move forward. At that time, making more shorts was a step backwards to me…”
But then Mike continued-- "You've written so many scripts, Sandy. You have all these designs around your studio from these films that you haven't been able to make yet. If you make shorts of just a few of them, you can make an anthology. There's your feature, mate..."
“So, I got to thinking-- The two things I'm most know for, are a short film and a series of creature design books. Ya know what, he's right. It makes perfect sense…”

I’ve had the privilege of visiting Collora’s studio in the past, and that place is full of stuff that just had me completely geeking out. The guy has created so many incredible and unique creatures, and the thought of seeing some of them come to life is freakin’ exciting! He goes on to talk about how Heavy Metal Magazine influenced this new project, explaining:

"Heavy Metal magazine and the subsequent animated anthology film, were VERY influential and inspirational to me as an artist in my younger years. Using that format as a model, it's my goal over the next year and half, to create separate campaigns for each different short film, raising the funds to create my own anthology feature over time, as opposed to trying to raise all the money at once for a singular feature film."

The filmmaker talks about some of the other things that inspired Shallow Water and the other films that will be included in the anthology, saying:

"This project combines so many things that I'm passionate about: classic horror, borne of mood and suspense; a memorable iconic creature; and the ocean environment. Shallow Water is a perfect storm of sorts, allowing me to combine my love of all these things into one film.
"Many horror films today rely on gimmicks. Found footage, shaky camera nonsense and of course, the whole "Is it real?" thing. The original masters of horror; F.W. Murnau, James Whale and Tod Browning, never needed those things and paved the way for Hitchcock, Kubrick and others who created true horror through mood and suspense. The 70's and 80's exploded with a whole new crop of scary, iconic horror films like "The Exorcist", "ALIEN", "Halloween", "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Predator". That was 30-40 years ago! Where did films like that go? Why has the horror genre taken such a turn? I'm going to make films that are gritty, real, moody and suspenseful, with new, original creatures. Throwbacks. No shaky cam, no gimmicks..."

Collora is very passionate about this project, and I can’t wait to see his vision brought to life. To help fund the project on Kickstarter, click here! Let's help make this movie a reality! Below you'll find a video of the filmmaker explaining the project as well as a poster that he released.

Rosa Salazar Will Reportedly Star in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL For James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez

Last year, James Cameron hired Robert Rodriguez to take over directing duties on Cameron's long-gestating live-action film adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel. He's been wanting to make this movie for over a decade (I remember when it was supposed to be his follow-up to Titanic), but because he's gotten so wrapped up in his Avatar sequels and returning to the world of Pandora, he knew there was no way it was ever going to see the light of day if he waited any longer. Last we heard, three actresses were up for the lead role, and now Collider reports that Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) has locked it down.

Set in the 26th century, Battle Angel tells the story of Alita, "an amnesiac female cyborg who is rescued from a scrapyard by a doctor. The rebuilt Alita, remembering only her training in a deadly martial art, becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals. Within the context of an epic action-adventure, the film will explore a young woman’s journey of self-discovery and finding love."

I haven't seen Salazar in any of her big-budget movies (Maze Runner, Insurgent), but she was terrific on last season of the underrated FXX comedy Man Seeking Woman, so I'm looking forward to seeing her embrace the role of an iconic, kick-ass action heroine here (assuming this report is accurate, of course).

Jeff Daniels and Scoot McNairy Eye Scott Frank's Western Netflix Series GODLESS

$

One of the upcoming Netflix projects I'm most excited about is Godless, a western limited series from creator Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Minority Report, The Wolverine, The Lookout) that's being executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. The six-episode series will be set in 1884, and Scott once described the plot like this:

"It is essentially the story of a severely wounded outlaw who ends up in this mining town in New Mexico, where all the able-bodied men have died in the mine. It’s run all by women. He ends up on a ranch just outside of town with the one woman the other women have ostracized and who’s nursing him back to health. Who he realizes are coming after him are his old gang members or fellow outlaws, laying waste to every town they come to, and you realize they’re coming here soon and it’s really that’s sort of the bare bones of the plot. It would be like me telling you 'The Lookout' is about a guy who robs a bank. It’s all about these characters and the relationships between all these people, and his relationship with the guy who’s coming for him. It all comes to a head in the middle of this town full of women."

Deadline now brings word that Jeff Daniels and Scoot McNairy (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) are in talks to join the cast. I'd have pegged McNairy as the wounded outlaw and Daniels as the man who comes after him, but the outlet also says that Jack O'Connell (Unbroken) has already been cast, so it seems possible that he might be the main character instead of McNairy. Either way, I'm super interested in this project and can't wait to see how it plays out. Filming begins soon in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and I'll keep you updated when more info becomes available.

Jake Gyllenhaal Reunites With PRISONERS and ENEMY Director For New Crime Thriller

Prisoners and Enemy were positioned right in the middle of Jake Gyllenhaal's recent career resurgence, so hearing news that he'll once again collaborate with the director of those films is good news for cinephiles. That director happens to be Denis Villeneuve, the man behind Sicario and the upcoming Blade Runner 2, and Deadline says the two will work together on a film adaptation of the popular crime novel The Son.

The Son follows the life of Sonny Lofthus, a once gifted 15-year-old and promising wrestler, whose downward spiral ensues when his cop father commits suicide. For the past twelve years, Sonny’s time in prison has been nurtured by an uninterrupted supply of heroin from a seedy chaplain on the inside. When Sonny learns long-hidden truths about his father’s unexpected death, he makes a brilliant escape and begins hunting down the people responsible for his wrongful sentence.

A prison break movie from Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve? I'm sold already. The Son hails from author Jo Nesbo, whose novel The Snowman has an adaptation on the way with Michael Fassbender in the lead role, so it looks like he's becoming a go-to guy for crime thrillers these days.

Watch Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Gwyneth Paltrow Surprise Young Cancer Patient

Ryan Wilcox is a hardcore fan of Marvel and The Avengers, but life hasn't been easy for him. When he was only three years old, Ryan was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and after years of going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy, the tumor was gone by age seven. But even though the tumor is gone, the treatments he underwent caused a rare side effect. At eighteen, the teenager is now battling a blood disorder called secondary Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

Ryan resides in San Diego, and his high school classmates assembled to spread the word that Ryan wanted to meet some of the actors from Marvel's cinematic universe, especially Chris Evans because he's a hardcore Captain America fan. Evans actually sent a special video message to Ryan earlier this month. I bet he's pissed that Marvel decided to turn him into a villainous Hydra agent.

Well, Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in the MCU, heard about all of this, and she organized a surprise meet-up for him with co-stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. A few days ago, they came by Ryan's home and spent a little over an hour with him and his family. While there, they posed for photos, handed out gifts, autographed his bedroom wall, and gave him the priceless gift of sheer joy and happiness.

You can see video footage of the trio of actors surprising Ryan below as they show up at his front door and hang out with him. Ryan told FOX 35:

"I know I'll never forget; it was too good of a day. They're all so great. I would like to say thank you for taking the time out to come see me and that was a highlight."

This is just another encouraging story of people doing good in the world. These people happen to be extremely famous and the fact that they took time out of their busy lives to do something like this is inspiring. Paltrow, Evans, and Downey Jr. have all proven to be stand-up individuals to help bring happiness into peoples lives when they can.

James Bond Rumor: Tom Hiddleston is Reportedly in Talks To Play The Next 007

Earlier this morning, we wrote about the news that Fantastic Four star Jamie Bell has had conversations with producer Barbara Broccoli about possibly becoming the next James Bond. But now BirthMoviesDeath is confirming what has, until now, only been tabloid speculation: Tom Hiddleston has also had conversations with Eon Productions about taking over as the next 007 and is in "advanced talks" to do just that.

The outlet's sources were careful to point out that these were just conversations and though Hiddleston wants the job, an official offer has not been made to him yet. BMD cautions that meeting with other actors publicly could be a game on the part of Eon, trying to lure Daniel Craig back for one more go-around as Bond. Despite many rumors, the current 007 hasn't officially bailed on the franchise at this point, but let's put it this way — I wouldn't be surprised if he's fired his Walther PPK for the last time.

I can easily see Hiddleston as the new Bond, and if you've been watching AMC lately, you may have seen him in a quasi-audition for the role in a spy thriller called The Night Manager. I had to give up on that series halfway into its six-episode run because the pacing was just too slow for me, but he undoubtedly showed a lot of promise as a spy. The question is: what kind of Bond would Eon want him to be? After the rough and tumble Craig (similar to Sean Connery in that regard), will the pendulum swing back toward suave and goofy, like the Roger Moore era? The thing about Hiddleston is he's versatile enough to be able to play Bond as a deranged psychopath, one-liner dropping ladies' man, or anything in between, so I hope these talks turn into an official announcement of him scoring the part.

Video: Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx Rehearse For COLLATERAL, Michael Mann's L.A. Masterpiece

I know director Michael Mann is famous for Miami Vice and the crime movie Heat, but I think the 2004 thriller Collateral is his true masterpiece. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx give stellar performances (seriously, it's some of the best work of Cruise's career), and it's one of the best movies to ever capture the unique look of Los Angeles at night. If you haven't seen it, it's an absolute must-watch, and even if you have, I'd highly recommend revisiting it. I'm convinced it's a modern classic.

It's very rare that we see rehearsal footage of A-list actors working their lines and blocking early in the process of a movie, but that's exactly what The Film Stage has pointed out today with this video from Eyes on Cinema. The quality isn't brilliant, but it's an uncommon look into the behind-the-scenes process of these guys as they were prepping for filming:

TFS has tracked down a few more cool behind-the-scenes videos from the movie, so check those out if you're interested.

Bryan Singer Wants To See The Original Cast Star in Another X-MEN Movie

$

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters everywhere right now, and while I thought it had a few excellent moments, it's mostly a disappointment. All due credit to Bryan Singer for kicking this film franchise off (and launching the modern superhero movie genre to a new level), but I don't think he's the right guy to continue making X-Men movies anymore. But if he has his way, he'd bring the original cast back for one more X-movie.

"I hope so. The night we had a little screening for the cast, I went and saw Patrick Stewart's wife sing at a local venue with Ian McKellen. The two of us were sitting there watching Patrick's lovely wife sing -- she has a great voice -- and I was thinking, yeah, at some point it would be lovely to see them all again. They're all great actors and great people, and I had great experiences with them. I'd love to see that happen -- it's just you have to figure it out. How do you do that? You can't do it for the sake of doing it -- you have to do it right. Or else it's just one of those cobbled-together things."

At this point, the continuity of this franchise is so completely screwed that Singer might as well bring back every member of the original cast and throw them all in for one last ride. Hell, he wouldn't even need to get all of them — just getting Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine again (after he retires from the role following The Wolverine 3) would be enough to get fans to go see the movie, regardless of the story it told. The timeline already doesn't make any damn sense (Apocalypse takes place twenty years after X-Men: First Class, but most of the characters look exactly the same), so just go ahead and reintroduce old Cyclops, Storm, and the rest of the gang, and just confuse the hell out of everyone even further. If Fox isn't going to give the rights back to Marvel Studios, just embrace the chaos and make this the most confusing, insane superhero film franchise of all time.

Striking PREDATOR Tribute Art By Matt Ferguson — "Thrill of The Hunt"

Artist Matt Ferguson is the creator of this print that wonderfully pays tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger and John McTiernan's Predator, which in my opinion is one of the most badass movies ever made. The print is called "Thrill of the Hunt," and it was created for NYC's Bottleneck Gallery. There was a limited edition that went up for sale earlier today, but unfortunately, they are sold out now.

Oh! In case you're not aware, I should use this opportunity to remind you that June 12th will mark the 29th anniversary of Predator, so celebrate accordingly.

Watch: Behind The Scenes Look at The Quicksilver Scene in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

The official X-Men movie Twitter account just sent out this cool behind-the-scenes look at the brand new Quicksilver sequence in X-Men: Apocalypse. Beware, though, there are spoilers ahead.

So if you've come this far, I'll assume you've already seen the movie. If that's the case, you know how awesome the Quicksilver scene was when he saved everyone (except for poor Havok) from the explosion at the X-Mansion, and how it's even better than the spectacular scene from Days of Future Past. Bryan Singer and his team certainly topped themselves in that category, even if the rest of the movie isn't nearly as good.

Take a look at how they did it below:

Will Lord and Miller's Animated Spider-Man Movie Feature Miles Morales?

$
0
0

The short answer to the headline: we don't know for sure. But Heroic Hollywood certainly claims that half black, half Puerto Rican character Miles Morales will be slinging webs as Spider-Man in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's animated Spidey movie for Sony. They also have two working titles for the movie: Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man, and The Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Lord and Miller had to bail on directing the project when they picked up directing duties on the young Han Solo movie for Lucasfilm, but they're still writing and producing the movie, so I expect we'll be able to feel a lot of their influence when the film hits theaters on December 21st, 2018.

It would have been so cool to see Morales make his live-action debut in Civil War, but seeing him in animated form is certainly better than not at all. We certainly don't need yet another Peter Parker wandering around, especially since it's already been announced that this movie will not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I wonder if they'll call Donald Glover to provide his voice...he may be a little too old for what they're going for now, but it'd be cool for him to pop up in one form or another.

What do you think? Excited about possibly seeing Miles Morales take on the Spidey mantle on the big screen?
