Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in the world, so as you can imagine, there have been an awful lot of myths, rumors, and urban legends about things that supposedly went on during the filming of the (thus far) seven live-action films. WhatCulture (via io9) is here to get to the bottom of these stories in a new video that explores some of the most talked-about behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the movies. Check it out:

The Official Title for Transformers 5 is TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT
Paramount Pictures has announced that the official title for the fifth installment of director Michael Bay's Transformers film franchise will be titled Transformers: The Last Knight. They even released the title treatment for the movie that you can see above.
The cast for the film has also been confirmed. Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role as Cade Yeager and he will be joined by Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School, Growing Up Fisher) who will be taking on the film’s female lead, Izabella. Then there's Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors), who is set to play an unspecified leading role.
Transformers: The Last Knight is being written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway along with Black Hawk Down writer Ken Nolan. It would be pretty cool if we actually got a great Transformers movie, but I won't hold my breath for that. These films just have gotten progressively worse.
Production on the new Transformers movie is scheduled to start on June 6th in Detroit. The film will also shoot at various places around the world. Transformers: The Last Knight to hit the big screen June 23, 2017!
Transformers: The Last Knight will be followed by a Bumblebee spin-off film set to come out in 2018 and then Transformers 6 arrives in 2019.

The Majority of the ASSASSIN’S CREED Movie Will Take Place in Modern Day
The first trailer that was released for Michael Fassbender’s Assassin’s Creed got me excited and pumped up to see the movie, regardless of the marketing team's taste in music. It looked great, and it seemed like it represented the game really well. Now I’m not so sure. During an interview with IGN, producer Pat Crowley surprisingly revealed that the majority of the movie will take place in modern day and not the 15th century.
He said that 65% of the film's story with the character Callum Lynch will take place in the present day and 35% in the film will be set in 15th Century Spain. That’s not at all what I was expecting. The majority of the game’s story takes place in the past, that’s the coolest and most entertaining part of the games.
While talking to GamesRadar, Jean-Julien Baronnet, ex-Ubi Motion Pictures CEO, explained why they are taking this route:
"The modern day will be much bigger than in the game. We don’t know very much about Abstergo in the game – we know some but not much - but the movie will have more. I think it’s very important... this beautiful thing that we have in Assassin’s where you’re in the Animus and you are learning through the Animus, but what are you really? I think that we will try and achieve this on this movie, so we will see today’s hero character arc move each time he regresses, and understand from his ancestor who he is and what is his destiny."
Fassbender, who plays Callum Lynch and his assassin ancestor Aguilar in the film, previously offered his take on adapting the game for film:
“There are certain things that we absolutely want to respect in the game, but we also want to bring new elements to the game… This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.”
The story for the film follows a character named Callum Lynch, who, "through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day."
As a fan of this game, it’s disappointing to hear that we won’t be spending more time in the past. As long as the story and script are solid, though, everything should turn out ok. As far as those go, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters on December 21st, 2016.
Fan Art of Dolph Lundgren as Cable in DEADPOOL 2
Last week, action star Dolph Lundgren revealed that he would be interested in playing Cable in Deadpool 2. A lot of fans seemed open to the idea of the actor taking on the role of Nathan Christopher Summers, a.k.a. Cable, and in case any of you were wondering what that might look like, Boss Logic whipped up the fan art that you see above for ComicBook.com.
Now that you can visualize Lundgren as Cable, what do you think? I’d be curious to see him in the role, but I also don’t think he’s the right man for the job. I just can’t wait to see who director Tim Miller actually ends up casting to bring this badass character to life.
Bryan Singer Has Pitched X-23 to Fox to Be the New Wolverine
It was previously rumored that X-23 might join Logan in director James Mangold’s Wolverine 3. With Hugh Jackman hanging up his claws after this movie, it would make sense to see a Wolverine replacement, and if that happened, Marvel's new female Wolverine, Laura Kinney, who was previously known as X-23, would be the perfect choice.
Well, it turns out that Bryan Singer actually already pitched the new female Wolverine to Fox. In a recent interview Fandango, Singer was asked if there was any truth to the rumor of bringing X-23 into Wolverine 3, and this is what he said:
"I have discussed that with the studio. I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female."
He went on to explain that his involvement with the film is only at an idea level. There’s no word on if Fox is moving forward with the female Wolverine idea, but I’m pretty sure that’s how things are going to play out. It’d be ridiculous if they didn’t take that route and introduce X-23 into Wolverine 3, which could lead to her taking on the mantle of Wolverine.
If you’re not familiar with X-23, she is the product of a top-secret program set up to replicate Weapon X, which is the group that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton. X-23 was created in the attempt to clone Wolverine. The first 22 attempts of this cloning process failed, but the 23rd attempt was a success and X-23 was born and that's how she got her code name.
X-23 was later given the name of Laura Kinney, and she has all of the superhero abilities that Wolverine has including super strength, healing factor, quick reflexes, and agility. One of the main differences — other than gender — is that X-23 has two retractable claws that spring out from her hands instead of three. She also has an extra set that comes out of her feet.
As I said before, she is a character that has been involved with both the X-Men and X-Force, so she could pop in and out of both those film properties.
Full Trailer for MR. ROBOT Season 2 - “Control Is an Illusion”
USA Network has released the first full trailer for Mr. Robot season two, and it looks awesome! The life of Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) is about to get even more intense and more complicated as his adventure continues in this next chapter of the story.
The series follows Alderson, a young cyber-security engineer that becomes involved in the underground hacker group "fsociety" after being recruited by their mysterious leader, who is played by Christian Slater.
In the trailer, we see that the world is still reeling from fsociety’s big hack. President Obama is even weighing in on fsociety and what they pulled off. Season two will pick up with Elliot, who is trying to figure out what happened to him during the three days of missing time he experienced after the night of the hack.
This is such a great show, and I can only imagine it’s going to get better as it continues. When executive producer Sam Esmail previously spoke to EW about the new season, all he said was:
“I can comfortably say that season two is very different from season one.”
I’m looking forward to seeing it! Mr. Robot is set to premiere its second season on Wednesday, July 13th.
INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 4 Is Officially in Development
The first two Insidious films that were directed by James Wan are in my hall of horror movie masterpieces. Screenwriter and co-creator Leigh Whannell took over directing duties for Insidious: Chapter 3, and it didn’t live up to the expectations or standards that were set by the first two films, but the franchise will continue!
Blumhouse has announced their plans to develop Insidious: Chapter 4, which will continue the story of the supernatural horror franchise. The fourth film will be directed by a newcomer by the name of Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan), and the script for the film will be written by Whannell, who wrote the first three films. I'm curious to see where he takes this latest addition to the story. Hopefully, it's better than the last one.
Jason Blum, Oren Peli and co-creator James Wan will all come back on board to produce the movie. It was also revealed that Lin Shaye, who has starred in the first three films will reprise her role as parapsychologist Elise Rainier.
Insidious: Chapter 4 is set to be released on October 20th, 2017.
Cool New ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Promo Art and Character Details
Update: Images of the book have been removed at the request of Disney. It was an unintentional leak.
If you're excited about director Gareth Edward's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, I've got some cool new stuff from the film to share with you today! There's a new visual guide book being released for the film called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Official Visual Story Guide and a 10-page preview was released in the Edelweiss catalog (via /Film).
This preview offers us some great new promotional art for the movie, which includes new images of several of the hero and villain characters in the film. It also gives us the full names of these characters along with a brief description of each one. It also offers us our first look at the droid character being played by Alan Tudyk, which you can see above in the image with the rest of the team. There are also a couple alien characters who will be a part of the Rogue One team that I wasn't prevously aware of.
- Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso , a highly skilled soldier and warrior.
- Diego Luna plays Captain Cassian Andor , an officer in the Rebel Alliance.
- Jiang Wen plays Baze, a freelance assassin.
- Riz Ahmed plays Bodhi, a rebel soldier.
- Unknown actor plays Pao , an alien who is described as a “fierce warrior”.
- Donnie Yen plays Chirrut, who is described as “a spiritual warrior.”
- Unknown actor plays Bistan, who is also described as “fierce warrior”.
It was also revealed that Ben Mendelsohn will play a villain named Director Krennic, who is described as a military adviser for the Empire. It is also confirmed that the black Stormtroopers are officially known as Death Troopers.
Tudyk's character is described as an imperial model K-250 enforcer droid. He is a former Empire security droid who ends up joining the film’s rebel fighting team on their mission.
Shane Black on Arnold Schwarzenegger's Involvement with THE PREDATOR
Not long ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he was going to be meeting with director Shane Black regarding The Predator, which he's currently developing. This news raised the hopes of a lot of Predator fans. I know I would love to see his character back in action in another Predator movie!
As of right now, there is no confirmation of Arnold's involvement, but if he is involved, Black isn't allowed to discuss it. While speaking with Crave Online, Black confirmed that the story would be set in modern day, and should Schwarzenegger return, he’ll be back as “Old Arnold.” Black says:
“These things all happened in 1990 Predator movies. But now it’s 25 years later. So in other words, if Arnold [Schwarzenegger]’s in it – which I’m not allowed to discuss [laughs] – he would be old Arnold.”
Arnold played Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer in John McTiernan’s badass original film where Dutch led a special forces team against an alien hunter in a South American jungle. That alien met his match.
Black also talked about the title for the film, The Predator, and teased that it has meaning in the film’s script.
“There is a reference in the script as to why that makes sense, but I’m not really supposed to talk about it.”
I hate when they tease you with information like that and then say they can't tell you any more! At this point, the meaning of the title is up for speculation. It makes me wonder if it has any connection to the Predator that Dutch fought in the first film.
Producer John Davis previously talked about the film saying that it's going to end up being something completely unexpected:
"The writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you, you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’”
There are no details on the story, but we know the look of the Predator is going to get some kind of upgrade and is described as being "organically different." Production on The Predator is expected to begin this fall, and it's set to be released in theaters on March 2, 2018.

Kevin Smith Wants to Write a SE7EN-Inspired ARROW Story Arc with the Villain Onomatopoeia
Kevin Smith did a great job with his episode of The Flash. Everyone had such a great time working with him on the show that they want him to come back and direct another one next season. Now that he’s got his foot in the door at The CW, maybe the producers will bring him on to help develop an episode of Arrow.
It seems like he would be perfect to take on that series given the fact that at one time in his career he was writing Green Arrow comic books. During an interview with Variety, Smith said he's not interested in directing an episode, but he would love to write a couple involving a story arc with the villain Onomatopoeia. He said:
"I would, though, like to write on Arrow. I would love to jump in for a one or two episode arc just to bring that Onomatopoeia character to life."
For those of you who don’t know, Onomatopoeia is a serial killer who targets superheroes that don’t have powers. A fan of Arrow recently mentioned Smith’s interest to do this to Steven Amell, and the actor responded enthusiastically with:
“This is a fucking awesome idea.”
Smith was then alerted to Amell’s reaction, and Smith replied saying he wants make his story very Seven-ish. Here’s the tweet he sent out.
I wanna do 2 very SEVEN-ish @CW_Arrow ep's w/ #Onomatopoeia! I'd love to get my words in your mouth, @StephenAmell! https://t.co/kOZtOYItbd
— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) May 14, 2016
I bet if Smith jumped on board Arrow, he could make the series great again. What do you think of his idea for an Arrow story arc?
THE SIMPSONS Did a Live Segment on Sunday and It Was Awesome and Awful at the Same Time
In case you don't keep up with the current run of The Simpsons, the animation team had another "first" on Sunday's episode. Using limited animation and lip synching software, Homer Simpson took live calls in the first live animated segment on television. It happened during the show's final three minutes, and it was as awesome as it was awful.
It was awful in the sense the animation is a bit choppy, and you're listening to a very unpolished Dan Castellaneta answering questions on the fly. With live questions, there's no real time to appropriately "Homerize" his voice as much as he would during an episode, and while he still sounds like Homer, it sounds like Homer without any emotion behind his voice.
Even with all that, it was an incredibly awesome idea, and the jokes they peppered in there were pretty entertaining! See the segment below.
Beautiful Trailer for Studio Ghibli’s THE RED TURTLE
If you are a fan of the films of Studio Ghibli, you’ve got to check out this trailer for their most recent project, The Red Turtle. As you would expect from the legendary Japanese animation studio, the animation is absolutely beautiful, and the film itself looks amazing.
The story centers around a sailor who ends up being stranded on a deserted tropical island. As he desperately tries to escape and to survive he encounters a strange turtle that leads to some more incredible, life-changing events.
The film was directed by Michaël Dudok de Wit, who was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000 for an animated short film he made called Father and Daughter. Apparently, The Red Turtle has very little dialogue, and the story is told mostly through visuals.
The movie is set to be released in Japan in September of this year, but as of right now there is no U.S. distribution. Hopefully, Disney picks it up to distribute it domestically. They usually pick up these incredible Studio Ghibli films. I can’t wait to watch this one.
Video: Cinemassacre Details Why He Will Not Watch The New GHOSTBUSTERS
Cinemassacre has seen many films in theaters, good and bad. He announced today in a detailed video that he will not be watching the new Ghostbusters, even to make fun of it. If you're looking for a specific reason, he has a laundry list of them. The high profile Youtuber (2 Million Subscribers) essentially says he is a huge fan of the original film and will not see a movie that he does not truly see as a "remake." He says the film cannot be a remake as it draws no bridges between the original film other than cameos in which the former actors don't play themselves.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Ghostbusters in general, but I can see his perspective when it comes to the remake. When I saw the second Total Recall I thought it could've been a great film...had it not been called Total Recall. The film was so far removed that it would've been better to have never connected the two at all. I don't think the new Ghostbusters is THAT far removed from the source, but it's certainly not what a lot of fans wanted apparently.
Like I said, I was never huge into Ghostbusters to begin with, so I wasn't planning on seeing it either way. Are you skipping like Cinemassacre, or will you watch?

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE's Post-Credits Scene Revealed
SPOILERS! Obviously.
Just in case you were wondering, yes, there is a post-credits scene at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse. Apparently this scene was not shown with the press screening that took place a couple of weeks ago. The post-credits scene has been confirmed, and thanks to Bleeding Cool we now have a description of what that scene will entail and the new sinister threat it sets up.
"We see a besuited man walking through the remains of the Weapon X clean-up programme, removing the blood, bodies and bullets. And a suited man retrieving vials of Wolverine’s blood labelled Weapon X. And placing them into his briefcase which contains other vials of differing colours. Slamming shut, it is labelled ESSEX CORP."
For those of you not familiar with Essex Corp. the man walking through the remains of Weapon X is Nathaniel Essex a.k.a. Mr Sinister. He is the world's greatest geneticist, who is capable of cloning, creating, enhancing, and controlling mutant abilities. In the comics, he was genetically mutated by Apocalypse.
I believe his involvement could lead to the creation of X-23 in the X-Men cinematic universe. Bryan Singer has pitched her to Fox as a possible replacement for Hugh Jackman's Logan after Wolverine 3. I'm curious to see how this all comes together.
You can read our review for X-Men: Apocalypse here. This movie is set to be released on May 27th.
Watch: 11 More Ways All Movie Trailers Are The Same
If you watch movies at a multiplex like an AMC Theaters, you're subjected to around 15-20 minutes of commercials and trailers before your movie actually begins. Seeing all of those trailers play back to back, you're probably very familiar with the similarities they share. Not long ago, I sat in a theater and watched four or five trailers in a row that started with a helicopter shot of a major city.
Cracked is here with a quick video essay breaking down a lot of the ways movie trailers are the same, including musical choices, structural elements, and more.

TETRIS is Now Getting Its Own Movie Trilogy
Who signed off on such a stupid idea?! I get it, everyone is making video game movies. We have The Angry Birds Movie, Assassin's Creed, Ratchet & Clank, and so many more have come before it! So when I read at Collider that a TETRIS movie is being made, confirming plans we heard a couple of years ago...I'm sorry, I can't. Better yet, the film is budgeted for $80 million, which sounds like $79,800,000 too much in my honest opinion. Just when I thought the madness is at its peak, I learned there are plans for a TRILOGY. God help us.
The film is set to feature a Chinese ensemble cast and be filmed at various locations around the world in what is billed as a "sci-fi thriller." If the plot is literally "Tetris blocks are aliens that attack the world," they can go ahead and cease production as I've already imagined the entire film in my head. How many monuments and world wonders will we see deleted? Just tell me now — will one of them be Stonehenge?
Hey look, I found some leaked footage.
In the comments below, write something you could do with $80 million dollars that's better than this!
We've Launched a Podcast Network! Introducing PodTyrant.com
It's been years since I've listened to music in any sort of meaningful way. Sure, I'll catch the occasional song on the radio here and there, or put on a playlist while I clean my apartment, but podcasts have largely replaced music for me as my go-to source of aural entertainment when I have any down time. I fell in love with the medium in 2008, and two years later, my friend Tyler and I started our own podcast with The Not Just New Movies Podcast, a review show where we reviewed a seemingly random movie that wasn't playing in theaters at the time. That ran for two years and 100 episodes (plus an occasional bonus episode) before we put it to bed in August of 2012, but it wasn't long until we started a different show called The 5Cast, one that's lasted even longer and is still going strong. You've probably seen episodes of both pop up here at GeekTyrant over the years.
Working on those shows is a lot of fun, but we've never come anywhere close to the level of mega-hits like This American Life or Serial when it comes to number of listeners and downloads. That's not really the goal, per se — sure, it'd be nice — so all we're really trying to do is give the show a larger audience. We knew there were a lot of other podcasts out there that were experiencing something similar — hosts and producers were putting in the time and creating consistently enjoyable shows, but they weren't getting the audience we thought they deserved.
So earlier this year, we hatched the idea to launch a podcast network that would serve as a hub for listeners to be able to discover those kinds of like-minded and entertaining shows that we knew were floating around online. We called it PodTyrant (fitting, right?), tracked down a handful of shows that we liked, and asked them to come aboard. We've been slowly adding high-quality podcasts ever since, and now it's time to officially introduce you all to the new network.
As of right now, eleven podcasts are part of the network (you can find them all here). We're on a trial basis with most of them for a little while longer, just feeling each other out as we continue to cement our relationships with the hosts, but we've had an absolutely fantastic experience with all of them so far and we're confident they're going to stick around for the long haul. I'm very proud of what we've been able to do in such a short time; from inception to execution, it's been a fun ride so far, and we're just getting started. Thanks to Free Reyes for building the website, to Tyler for heading up PodTyrant's Twitter account (give us a follow, won't you?), and to all of the hosts and producers we've worked with who have been producing cool content. The podcasting medium isn't slowing down any time soon, and we're excited to take the site to the next level.
So add PodTyrant.com to your bookmarks and check out the podcasts we have over there. There's a new episode of at least one show being posted every weekday. We're also looking for more shows to join the team, so if you host or produce a show you think would be a good fit for the network, send us a submission. Maybe you'll become the newest member of the family.
