Mid-Credits Scene in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Explained By Kevin Feige

If you haven't seen Captain America: Civil War yet, you might not want to read this because it obviously contains information about the mid-credits scene in the movie.

I saw Captain America: Civil War for the third time last night and it just gets more and more entertaining to watch. Seeing the film with an audience of fans definitely makes the experience of watching the film so much more entertaining.

I just want to confirm that there are two post-credits scenes at the end of the film and during an interview with CinemaBlend, Marvel President Kevin Feige talks about the first mid-credits scene, which involves Captain America taking Bucky to a Wakanda laboratory where he is put back into stasis until there's something that can help fix his mind that was broken by Hydra. T'Challa promises Cap that he will keep Bucky safe if anyone comes for him. Feige explains the scene, saying:

"That was always sort of the idea for the end of the movie, and as the movie was being developed, it felt like it would be additionally cool to have that happen in Wakanda – a super advanced place. They’ve got something that he could go in. And also, it speaks to Panther’s arc. The person that he was out to kill early in the movie, he’s now nobly helping. And then, of course, that led organically to a cool moment, where Cap can go, "Thanks for doing this, but they’re going to come get you."

I really loved Black Panther's story arc in this film and where it led him. The guy was hellbent on revenge for the death of his father throughout most of the movie, but through a series of events he learns what it means to be a real leader. This scene also makes me wonder if Bucky will play a role in the Black Panther solo film. It would be awesome if he did!

The second post-credits scene teases Spider-Man: Homecoming so make sure to stay for that! For some reason, a lot of people are still walking out of theaters not realizing there's a special treat after the credits roll! You'd think they'd have learned by now, but I guess not.

Two More Actors Join WOLVERINE 3 in Mystery Roles

It's been a busy few weeks for director James Mangold's Wolverine 3. They just cast Richard E. Grant as a mad scientist and British funnyman Stephen Merchant in a mystery role, and over the past couple of days, two more actors have joined the cast, also in mysterious capacities.

Variety reports that both Eriq La Salle (ER) and Elise Neal (The Hughleys, Hustle & Flow) have come on board, but plot details and details about both of their characters are being kept under lock and key.

Wolverine 3 will reportedly be star Hugh Jackman's final film playing the title mutant, and it's widely assumed that it will at least loosely follow the Old Man Logan storyline from the comics. Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed the story will take place in the future. We know Patrick Stewart's Professor X is coming back in a major way to further explore his relationship with Logan, Narcos star Boyd Holbrook has been cast as the main villain, X-23 is rumored to appear, Sabretooth may be coming back, and Wolverine may finally bust out the berserker rage. Wolverine 3 slashes its way into theaters on March 23, 2017.

Who do you think La Salle and Neal will play in the movie?

Comic-Con HQ Acquires Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion's CON MAN

Since the announcement of Comic-Con HQ, the coming streaming platform from Comic-Con International and Lionsgate, we’ve all been wondering what exactly they’ll be streaming. We know they will be streaming Hall H panels from the convention, but what other programming will the paid subscription service be offering? Well, the first answer is Con Man, the web series from Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion.

Comic-Con HQ will be the exclusive home of season one of the crowdfunded series beginning this June, with a second season coming this fall. If you are not familiar with the series, here’s a synopsis:

“Loosely based on Tudyk’s and Fillion’s experiences starring in Firefly, Con Man centers on the post-show life of Wray Nerely (Tudyk), the co-star of “Spectrum,” a sci-fi TV series canceled before its time that later became a cult classic beloved by fans. Wray’s best friend, Jack Moore (Fillion) starred as the series’ Captain and has gone on to become a major celebrity, while Wray continues to struggle to find his big break. While Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister, Wray is the begrudging guest of sci-fi conventions, comic book store appearances and different pop culture events. The series explores these events and all the crazy and real things that happen behind the scenes in the world of fandom.”

Basically, Comic-Con HQ is the perfect home for this series. I first saw footage from Con Man at Comic-Con last year, and it looks pretty charming. It also features appearances by almost everyone who has ever been on a cult geeky show, including Felicia Day, Seth Green, Gina Torres, Tricia Helfer, Summer Glau, and about a billion more, plus Joss Whedon and James Gunn. If you are a geek, this is probably a show you want to watch.

Seth Laderman, EVP and General Manager of Comic-Con HQ said in a statement:

“Comic-Con HQ is all about capturing the spirit of the fan community, and in its own way, so is Con Man. Alan uniquely understands all sides of the fan experience and he’s captured it in such a farcical way that it’s as much parody as it is commentary around the power of fandom.”

Tudyk added:

“We are thrilled to be a part of the Comic-Con HQ family. For a series that was born out of a passion for the genre and support from the fans, we couldn’t think of a better way to connect with our community.”

Comic-Con HQ will begin a beta launch on Free Comic Book Day, which is tomorrow, that you can sign up for here. If you sign up in the first two weeks, you will be entered to win a free trip to San Diego Comic-Con 2016. Comic-Con HQ will officially launch this summer and roll out to Roku, AppleTV, and Xbox One. Hopefully they will keep picking up great content to make a subscription worth your while.

Here is the announcement video from Tudyk.

Watch Quicksilver's X-MEN Kitchen Scene Recut Without Slo-Mo

Under no circumstances would I ever remove Quicksilver's slow motion scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past. That scene remains one of my favorite superhero fight scenes in the entire genre! That aside, watching the scene unfold as the characters (sans Quicksilver) would've experienced it is almost just as cool! This is probably how they would've done it if they had a television budget!

Thanks to Nerfavari for showing us this!

Tom Hooper To Direct CATS, Film Adaptation of The Successful Broadway Musical

Tom Hooper loves to make Oscar bait movies. His last three films are The King's Speech, Les Miserables, and The Danish Girl, and now he's reportedly going to tackle another film adaptation of a different long-running Broadway musical with Cats. The Wrap reports that he's directing a new version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, and he's "in the midst of deciding how to approach the adaptation — be it with actors, CG-characters or a combination of the two, a la Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book."

The play follows a series of ridiculously-named cats that are part of a tribe called the Jellicles, and...well, read the insane plot synopsis if you're looking for more details. It's nuts. It's also one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history, and a massive success — although watching the trailer for a late '90s video version of the show, I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Let the countdown begin until Eddie Redmayne is cast in the lead role.

Michael Giacchino To Score Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE

If there's one area where the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been consistently lacking, it's the music. The original scores for the films have never contained iconic, instantly-recognizable themes for each of the larger-than-life superheroes, and I've always considered that to be one of the biggest missed opportunities in Kevin Feige's otherwise excellently conceived brainchild.

So what could the studio do to change that? How about hire one of the world's best composers? That's a pretty good start, and that's exactly what they've done: Michael Giacchino has come on board to compose the music for Doctor Strange.

Giacchino, of course, is the Oscar-winner who created the scores for Pixar movies like The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2, and Inside Out, so he's staying in the Disney family by jumping over to Marvel Studios with this next project. He also provided the score for Mission: Impossible 3, Star Trek, Let Me In, Super 8, 50/50, John Carter, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World, and many more. But my favorite of all of his work is the beautiful, haunting score for Lost. I can't wait to hear what he does with the mind-bending Doctor Strange — I'm expecting some serious weirdness.

Batman Comic Covers Recreated in The Style of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES

As you may already know, artist Greg Capullo recently ended his run on Batman with Scott Snyder last week. As a way to pay tribute to Capullo’s work on the comic, artist Rick Celis recreated all of the cover art that was created for the Batman comics Capello worked on and reimagined them in the style of Batman: The Animated Series. I’ve included some of my favorite pieces below, but to see the full collection of them, click here

DEADPOOL Gag Reel Reveals The Filthy Jokes That Didn't Make The Cut

Deadpool is one of 2016's biggest success stories, and I think it has a lot to do with the filmmakers saying that they were making a movie "for the fans" and actually following through on that promise. The foul-mouthed, violent, fourth-wall-breaking character got the movie he deserved, and fans will be able to watch it over and over again when it hits Blu-ray and DVD this coming Tuesday.

In the meantime, check out the gag reel from the film, which spotlights a lot of riffing from Ryan Reynolds and T.J. Miller that didn't make the final cut:

We all know Tom Hiddleston starred in the Hank Williams biopic I Saw The Light, but is he as good at portraying Hank Williams live as he is on the silver screen? I'll let you decide as you listen to his live performance on BBC Radio. If you listen to the original song below, I think he does a pretty solid job, but nothing compares to the original.

I would say he did about as well as Joaquin Phoenix did playing Johnny Cash, though — wouldn't you?

Sounds Like Marvel's Black Widow Solo Movie Might Actually Happen

Captain America: Civil War is the thirteenth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the studio has movies announced all the way through 2019. But there's one film fans have been asking to see for years: a Black Widow solo movie. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has always seemed open to the idea, but he's always sort of talked around it; in a new interview with Deadline, his language seems to indicate that he and the studio are more serious about giving the character her own movie than ever before:

DEADLINE: You’ve got a bunch of characters in this movie from Falcon and War Machine and Black Widow and Hawkeye, who have so far guest starred in movies with another characters title above the fold. Is there one destined to get a solo movie down the line?
FEIGE: We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.
DEADLINE: Why?
FEIGE: We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.

Being "creatively and emotionally" committed to a Black Widow movie sounds a lot more promising than the sound bites Feige's given about this topic in the past, and with The Russo Brothers recently talking about how much they want to see the character get her due, it sounds like we're closer than ever to finally seeing Scarlett Johansson's Natasha suit up for her own movie.

There's a bunch of good stuff in that Deadline interview, and you should go read the whole thing if you have a few minutes. Captain America: Civil War is in theaters now.

GHOSTBUSTERS Director Paul Feig Strikes Back at The "Assholes" of Geek Culture

$
0
0

Ever since it was announced that the Ghostbusters reboot would be filled with a cast of women, the worst corners of the internet have come to the forefront to trash not only the idea of the movie, but personally attack everyone involved, from stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon to director Paul Feig. As you might expect, Feig has not taken these attacks lightly, responding to a bunch of jackasses on Twitter a few months ago and now telling the New York Daily News:

"Geek culture is home to some of the biggest assholes I've ever met in my life. Especially after being attacked by them for months because of this 'Ghostbusters' project...
I don't care what shape or size or color or anything [the actresses] are. I live or die on what things are funny and whether or not people will be entertained by them...
(Melissa McCarthy) is just this hilarious woman who is so funny. I don't care WHAT she looks like. As long as she's funny and is a professional. She's hilarious."

I want his movie to be great, but I have to admit I wasn't impressed by the film's first trailer (McCarthy herself was confused by it). But the people Feig is criticizing here are the ones that have been hating on this project months before the trailer even debuted, and he's hit the nail on the head about a certain vocal set of fandom that thinks it's acceptable to hurl personal insults at people who are just making a movie. If his Ghostbusters ends up being the worst movie of the year, that would be unfortunate, but also not the point. No one is taking away your DVD of the original movie. No one is coming to crap on your childhood memories of loving the first film. Is it too much to ask for people to just act like civilized human beings when a project comes out that they aren't excited about?

Yo Mama: The Surprising Connection Between CIVIL WAR and BATMAN V SUPERMAN

This piece contains spoilers for both Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Mother’s Day is this weekend, so it seems fitting that two of the year’s most anticipated superhero movies — one which hit theaters today, only two days before the holiday — would involve mothers in important ways.

We all know how this went down in Batman v Superman — at this point, it’s been memed to death — but here’s a quick recap in case you need a refresher. After squaring off in the streets of Gotham City, Batman gets the best of Superman and stands over him, arms raised, about to plunge a Kryptonite spear into his chest. It’s only when Superman mentions the name “Martha,” which happens to be the name shared by both of the heroes’ mothers, that Batman realizes there’s some humanity to this god-like man after all, so he stays his murderous hand.

In Civil War, however, the mention of Tony Stark’s mother is actually what incites violence, not what quells it. Iron Man and Captain America spend the movie at ideological odds with one another, but near the end of the film, Tony finally realizes Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) has been framed for crimes he didn’t commit and forms a truce with Steve Rodgers. The three find themselves deep in a Russian bunker with the villain, Zemo, who openly states that he wants to tear the group apart from the inside out. He shows them a video from 1991. It’s footage of Tony’s parents’ deaths at the hands of Bucky, and when Tony predictably loses his cool, Steve tries to explain that Bucky was brainwashed at the time. “I don’t care,” Tony says, “he killed my mom.” And the fight begins again.

Pop culture is littered with stories about fathers and sons (an episode of Lost was even titled “All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues”), and the Marvel and DC universes are no exception. Clark Kent famously leaves his father to die in a tornado in Man of Steel, Thor and Loki have power struggles with Odin in the Thor movies, Gamora and Nebula have their own problems with Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, and there are dueling father stories in Ant-Man as both Hank Pym and Scott Lang fight to remain in their daughters’ lives. Tony Stark has it perhaps worst of all, though, having to deal with living up to Howard’s impressive legacy, physically battling surrogate father figure Obadiah Stane in the first Iron Man movie, and experiencing the other side of the equation in Age of Ultron when his own “child” turns against him.

When it comes to mentions of mothers in these franchises, though, the list of examples grows smaller. Clark turns to Martha Kent for support after his father is gone, Thor and Loki both seem to have decent relationships with Frigga, and Peter Quill’s connection to his mom is an important part of Guardians, but that’s essentially all that’s to be found in the MCU and DCEU…so far, anyway. (We know Wonder Woman will interact with her mother in the upcoming solo film next year.)

I won’t attempt to ascribe any larger thematic significance here, or make any sweeping generalization about how the way the opposing reactions to mothers in these movies is somehow representative of their respective cinematic universes as a whole. I just thought it was a fascinating coincidence, and thus far the dearth of maternal association on the big screen makes it especially interesting that two films which share so many surface similarities (blockbusters in which major superheroes fight each other, featuring multiple heroes, loosely based on comics, touching on themes of security and freedom, released only weeks apart, etc.) would also both spotlight key moments involving characters’ moms.

The Evolution of Captain America’s Costume in Comics and Film - Infographic

I’ve got an infographic here for all you Captain America fans that shows us the evolution of Cap's costume over the past 75 years in comics and film. The graphic comes from Halloweencostumes.com and it’s cool to see all of the different designs the character has had over the years.

Captain America has worn an incredible number of costumes since the character debuted 75 years ago. These costumes typically alternated between patriotic suits and more modern military uniforms, with some notable exceptions. Of course, his appearance was ultimately in the hands of the artists and writers who worked on the Captain America and The Avengers comic book titles, often for extended periods of time. These included Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Steve Englehart and Sal Buscema, and Mark Gruenwald, among others. In this infographic, we show how Captain America’s costume has evolved in comics, television, and film. We primarily consider the main universe or continuity, though we do briefly look at The Ultimates alternate universe because of its influences on later appearances.

Marvel is currently shooting their new Netflix series Iron Fist with Finn Jones in the heroic role of Danny Rand. Today we have some cool photos from the set to share with you featuring Rand showing off some of his martial arts skills on the streets of New York.

Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, has spent the past ten years training in the mystical city of K’un-Lun. He returns to New York City when he’s completed his training to fight against the “criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

Jones is joined in the series by Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, David Wenham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. The series is being developed by Dexter’s Scott Buck and it’s set to premiere on Netflix on September 30th, 2016.
