Even though it's not even Halloween yet in 2012, Relativity Media is already looking ahead to Thanksgiving of 2014.
The studio is partnering with Reel FX to produce Turkeys, an animated comedy featuring the voice talents of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson. Jimmy Hayward, who directed Horton Hears A Who! and the disastrous Jonah Hex after Neveldine/Taylor vacated the project, is returning to animation and tackling the directing duties on this one. (I think we can all forgive him for Jonah Hex considering he was an animator on Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo.) John Strauss and David I. Stern wrote the screenplay (rewrite by Dan Mazin), with regular Kevin Smith collaborator Scott Mosier producing.
The movie is described as "an irreverent, hilarious, adventurous buddy comedy where two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history - and get turkey off the menu for good."
The time travel element certainly sounds like fun, and with the goofy voices of Wilson and Harrelson leading the charge, kids will probably have a blast as well. I had a friend who was working on this project over a year ago, so it's been in the works for quite some time already. It sucks that we have to wait a whole two years to see it, but I get it - animation takes time. Hopefully they can avoid the excessive pop culture jokes like the old DreamWorks Animation films used to rely on and deliver something fresh to go along with our holiday meals in a couple of years.
Excited about this one?
