Hollywood notoriously chews up and spits out child actors. So with so many of them falling by the wayside -- from drugs and other erratic behavior to simply not being able break away from their childhood image -- is there no clear path to successfully transitioning into being a viable adult actor? The ratio isn't great, but there are many who do manage to keep their head above the water. Vulture has put together this nice little infographic that maps out similar benchmarks hit by three male stars who started off as child actors: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Gosling and Shia Labeouf.
If they replaced Shia with Leonardo DiCaprio, I think I could more fully get behind this adult actor survival guide. I just don't think Shia is on par with the other two as far as being leading men -- not to mention not making complete jackasses out of themselves while promoting their films. I'd like to see other child actors with other similar paths mapped out as well... say, Elijah Wood and Jason Schwartzman?
