Last year, director Peter Travis and screenwriter Alex Garland brought Judge Dredd fans a cool hard-R take on the character to the big screen called Dredd. The movie turned out to be great. For the most part, fans were happy with what the movie had to offer. It got positive reviews, but for some reason general audiences didn't embrace it. $45 million was spent making the film. Unfortunately, it only made $35.6 million worldwide. Because of that, I thought for sure that the prospect for a sequel was dead and buried. Apparently that's not the case! In a recent interview with Collider, Karl Urban revealed that there's still hope for Dredd 2!
Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.
I would love to see another Dredd film! I hope that it happens one day. Even though Urban says there's hope it can happen it's not going to happen for a long time.
