It was recently announced by THR that Disney’s long awaited reboot of their 1979 sci-fi film The Black Hole has landed a writer.

This project was started in 2009 with writer Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim), but apparently he has moved on to bigger projects. (Sorry about the pun, but I just couldn’t help myself) Now Disney has given the task to Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts. They already snagged director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) to helm this thing, and now that they have a writer, things seem to be moving forward.

I really liked the original film. I don’t think that I have actually seen the theatrical version of the movie. I watched it a couple of times on the Magical World of Disney when I was young. That being said; I think they have paired the right writer and director to do the original film justice. I am not saying that it is going to be an academy award winner, but it should be fun.

The original "followed a group of space explorers aboard the USS Palomino who come across a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, hovering outside a black hole. Inside the Cygnus, the explorers meet a scientist commanding an army of faceless robots, who explain that his crew deserted him as he planned to go through the black hole. The explorers soon discover that the robots are the remnants of the former crew and that the scientist has no intention of letting them leave."

Until next time…
