It looks like Universal Pictures is looking to take Dwayne Johnson's Fast and Furious character, DSS Agent Luke Hobbs, and give him his own spinoff film.
In a recent interview with Empire, Johnson talked about the solo film, revealing that there's a possibility it could could happen before we even see Fast and Furious 7.
[It could arrive] possibly after this one or after the next one, possibly, I’m not quite too sure. I know that’s the goal and we continue to build that character and have him take shape. But yes, I can’t wait.
It sounds like a done deal, so basically it all comes down to when it's going to happen. The character was introduced in Fast 5, and audiences seem to like him, so I'm sure a spinoff film could be pretty successful. What do you think of Johnson getting his own Fast and Furious spinoff movie?
I'm looking forward to the next movie Fast and Furious 6, which hits theaters on May 24th. It also also stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Luke Evans and Gina Carano. Here's the synopsis for it...
Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.
Meanwhile, Hobbs has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.
