Oldboy director Chan-wook Park is set to direct a crime drama based on a true story called Corsica 72, which sounds like a perfect project for the director to take on! The script was on 2009 Black List and comes from Skyfall scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Here's a synopsis:
On the island of Corsica in 1972, childhood best friends Marco and Sauveur find their lives veering in opposite directions – the first towards the Mafia, the second toward a simpler life with his beloved, Lucia. When the Corsican mob kills Sauveur’s brother, they ignite a tit-for-tat blood feud that inevitably leads toward a final showdown.
I'm sold on seeing this movie! With Park on board you know it's going to be a brutal story. The director just completed shooting the horror drama Stoker of Fox Searchlight, and is also attached to direct a violent western called The Brigands of Rattleborge. According to Variety, he's expected to shoot Corsica next.
I'm a big fan of Park's work, his films are entertainingly sick and twisted, and this this one seems to perfectly fit his filmmaking personality. What are your thoughts on the this new project he's planning to develop?
