A third Steve Jobs movie has been made, and it's coming from the funny folks over at Funny or Die. There's the Jobs movie that was recently made that stars Ashton Kutcher, Sony Pictures is developing one with Aaron Sorkin, and now we're going to get a comedic film inspired by the life of the legend.
The movie is called iSteve and it will star Justin Long as Jobs. As you know he's appeared in several Mac vs. PC commercials. The movie will clock in at 60 to 75 minutes, and it's the longest project to date for Funny or Die, which is generally known for its funny comedy sketches. The original plan was to make a fake trailer for a Steve Jobs movie, and they just ended up turning it into an actual full movie. Producer Allison Hord explains,
We were kicking around the idea of making a fake Steve Jobs movie trailer, and as often happens in a writers’ room, the joke kind of escalated.
Not sure if anyone is going to take offense to this but she goes on to say that "even the harshest fanboy critics will be able to laugh with us." I'm a huge fan of Jobs and what he's done, and I can't wait to see what these guys have come up with! Writer and director of the film Ryan Perez had this to say,
In true Internet fashion, it’s not based on very thorough research — essentially a cursory look at the Steve Jobs Wikipedia page. It’s very silly. But it looks at his whole life.
Perez said he wrote the 81-page script for iSteve in three days, and it was shot in only five. Long is joined by James Urbaniak as Bill Gates, Michaela Watkins as Melinda Gates, and Jorge Garcia plays Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple.
The movie is set to be released online on April 15th, 2013, and I'm excited to see it! I'm sure it will be great!
