Just yesterday we reported that the third season of BBC's Sherlock would start shooting next week. At the time I expressed how much I would love to see the series continue past season 3, and I'm incredibly excited to report that series star Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that there will indeed be a fourth season, and maybe even a fifth! The Radio Times talked to the actor recently and this is what he had to say about it!
We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that. All I know at the moment is I'm doing these three [episodes for Series 3] and another three [episodes for Series 4].
When asked about a possible fifth season the actor said,
It just depends on Martin [Freeman} and I's availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven [Moffat]'s ability. I'd love to keep it going.
So it seems like they would like to keep it going if they could! It all comes down to time and availability. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the story, and how far they will end up taking it before they end it. At least we know the series will continue through season four! That's awesome!
