I've been anxiously awaiting the 24 movie that was being developed over at Fox. At one point things seemed to be rolling forward! Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do it, a script was written, and Antoine Fuqua was attached to direct the first movie of a planned trilogy. According to Fuqua, the project all fell apart and it's not going to happen anymore. The director talked to The Playlist in a recent interview, and when asked about it he says...
Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [’Touch‘]. I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.
There were rumors that there were some budgetary issues, and that Sutherland was only offered a meagre $1 million to make the movie. As a huge fan of the series, I'm disappointed that Jack Bauer's move to the big screen isn't going to happen. I know it would have been awesome, but that's just the kind of beast Hollywood can be. They get your hopes up and then smash your dreams. Damn them!
