Yesterday it was revealed that Disney is already working on developing a sequel to Oz The Great and Powerful. They've already got a writer working on the script. I was hoping that Sam Raimi would come back to direct, he did such an incredible job with this first movie, but unfortunately it doesn't look like that's going to happen. I don’t really have a plan to direct the sequel. I’ve put into the picture one or two loose ends in case another director wants to make the picture. If Disney made a lot of money and the audience really wanted to see one then they would make one, but I was attracted to it because of the story of the growth of this human being, and I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested, but I couldn’t speak about what would take place in it.
Now just because he has no plans on directing it now doesn't mean there won't be plans in the future. If the story for the sequel is something he feels he can take on maybe it will happen. I guess we'll see. If he doesn't return, it really won't be the same without him. Either way, I'm always excited to see a Sam Raimi film, so I'm looking forward to whatever he does next, Oz movie or not!
