In 1961 legendary director Staney Kubrick wrote a script for a feature film based on the life of Napoleon. It never went into production, but it looks like Steven Spielberg wants to take it on now. According to Deadline, he's working with the late filmmaker's estate to bring the project to life as a TV series.

Spielberg recently told the French TV network Canal+, "I’ve been developing Stanley Kubrick’s screenplay, for a miniseries not for a motion picture, about the life of Napoleon."

Kubrick is known for doing extensive research on all of his films including location photos, notes, and boxes of other details which provided a book on the subject. This would have been a big budget epic film, and the studios didn't want to invest in it.

This wouldn't be the first time Spielberg worked on a Kubrick project, in 2001 he directed A.I. which also started out as a Kubrick film.

The director is set to produce Jurassic Park IV, is developing another WWII series for HBO, and is preparing to get Robopocalypse off the ground. He's also entertaining the idea of directing the Moses epic Gods And Kings for Warner Bros.
