Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhané Wallis was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar last night. Even though she walked away empty handed, she still landed the lead role in Will Smith and Jay Z's remake of the hit Broadway musical Annie.
Easy A director Will Gluck is directing the film from a script written by Emma Thompson and later rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna. Gluck will also be taking a pass at the script.
The story will be set in modern day and follow the adventures of little orphan Annie as she tries to find a family to call her own. She ends up being adopted by billionaire Daddy Warbucks, and of course, there's lots of singing. Wallis is a fantastic young actress, and I'm sure she'll be great in the film!
Smith's daughter Willow was previously attached to star in the movie at one point, but ended up dropping out because she aged out of it. The movie is set to shoot this fall and will most likely be released during the 2014 holiday season.
