Back in the day Stan Lee created some of the greatest comic book superheroes of all time. Lately though the characters he's come up with have been pretty forgettable. But one of his latest characters he's created is Annihilator, and he's on his way to the big screen.
Annihilator is a Chinese prisoner who goes through a crazy scientific procedure in which he's infused with the powers of several different animals. Producer Barry Josephson (Enchanted, Bones, Wild Wild West) has signed on to help develop the film with Magic Storm Entertainment. The script was written by Dan Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy, Real Steel).
As much as I've enjoyed what Lee has created in his career this is one of those things that seems like it's going to be a hard sell. But, it looks like this is going to happen, and I hope it ends up exceeding my expectations. It's just hard not to think that it's going to be a dud. Josephson had this to say in a statement,
One of my dreams when I became a producer was to work with Stan Lee. Now with Dan Gilroy’s magnificent script, that dream will become a reality.
We also have a story synopsis from the press release. Read through it and let us know if you think it will make for a good movie.
ANNIHILATOR tells the story of a young Chinese expatriate, Ming, who must choose between remaining in prison or enlist in a secret US super soldier program. The program uses targeted genetic enhancements from various animal species. Ming chooses to undergo this nearly fatal procedure and through his extreme resolve, gained as a result of his family’s tradition of practicing Qijong and martial arts, he survives. Now, armed with remarkable abilities, he must confront a former rival with his own set of enhanced faculties. Our reluctant hero is forced not only to face his personal demons, but also to defeat the villain who will destroy everything that he knows and loves.
So do you think Stan Lee's still got it?
