Dan Trachtenberg has signed on to direct Y The Last Man for New Line, according to Deadline. Trachtenberg has a background in commercials, but gained a bunch of buzz after he directed an amazing short based on the videogame Portal.
Y The Last Man takes place in a dystopian future, and focuses on the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia penned the script based on the science fiction comic book series from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. The 60-issue series was first published in 2002 by Vertigo, but has since been turned into a book and won five Eisner Awards.
I have never read the books or comics, but this sounds like a cool concept. The Portal video was cool, so Trachtenberg deserves a chance at directing feature films.
