I haven't seen much of Ricky Gervais lately, but the British comedian is currently in negotiations to star The Muppets sequel currently in development over at Disney. The movie has three main human roles, along with a ton of cameos, but Gervais will be playing the biggest human lead role in the film. It will be just as big as Jason Segel's part in the first film, but there's no details on the character that he'll be playing. He actually shot a cameo for the first movie but the scene didn't end up in the final cut of the film. Gervais is a funny dude, and I can easily see him in a Muppets movie.
Modern Family's Ty Burrell was previously cast in the role of a lazy Interpol inspector, and the director of the first film James Bobin is back to direct the movie from a script he co-wrote with Nicholas Stoller. Segel will not be returning for the sequel in any capacity. The first Muppets film was really fun, and all I can hope for is that the sequel turns out just as entertaining.
