It's hard for me to imagine Quentin Tarantino directing a superhero comic book film. But it almost happened a couple of times. Warner Bros. asked him to direct Green Lantern, and he turned it down -- you can bet your ass it would have been a lot better than the one we ended up with. However, there was one comic book movie that he seriously considered making in his career, that was a Luke Cage movie called Hero for Hire, which would have starred Laurence Fishburne. Here's what he told MTV,
After 'Reservoir Dogs,' I had considered doing a 'Luke Cage, Hero for Hire' movie. [Producer] Ed Pressman owned the rights at that time, and we talked about it. I talked to Larry Fish [Laurence Fishburne] about being Luke Cage, and he really liked that idea. Then I ended up writing 'Pulp Fiction.'
We'll as much as I would have loved to see Tarantino's version of Luke Cage, making Pulp Fiction was the right call. It kind of feels like if Tarantino would have done Luke Cage, his career could have gone in a completely different direction. Pulp Fiction (as we know it) would have never been made. He's never really been interested in doing any other superhero film since, unless he makes up the character himself.
My feeling is if I wanted to do something like that, I'd want to create the superhero myself.
If you ask me, I'd say that The Bride from the Kill Bill series is a pretty awesome superhero. So it's not like he hasn't done it already. Tarantino also helped Robert Rodriguez a little bit with the first Sin City movie. When Tarantino was asked if would be directing a segment in the sequel he said,
I think it's all Robert. He hasn't gotten in touch with me about anything, so probably not.
Would you have liked to see Tarantino make a Luke Cage movie? I guess if he directed any comic book film Luke Cage would have been a good fit for him.
