Guillermo del Toro sat down with MTV to offer up some cool commentary on the trailer for his epic looking film Pacific Rim. There's some great insight that he offers in which he explains that the whole visual style of the film is scale. He explains why he chose the shots he did to be in the trailer. He discusses the pilots, suits and the technology used in the film. He then moves on to discuss the characters, giving us a little background on them. Oh! He also says that we'll see what's on the other side of the inter-dimensional portal where the monster come from!
I have no doubt that this movie is going to be a hell of a fun ride. Del Toro knows how to tell a good story, and this one is set around giant robots fighting giant monsters... it's going to be a huge hit! Pacific Rim is set to be released on July 12th 2013.

Synopsis:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
