20 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has dropped out as the director of Summit Entertainment's Highander remake. Ryan Reynolds is still attached to star in the film, but apparently the studio and the director just couldn't agree on the direction to take the movie. After a year of trying to figure out the story and style they agreed to disagree and parted ways. Justin Lin was also attached to the project at one point but left to direct Fast 6.
Summit will start looking for another director to take his place, someone that shares the same vision as they do. Fresnadillo will also go on the hunt for a new directing gig. He was previously attached to direct the Crow remake before Highlander, but dropped out of it to take it on. Maybe he'll try to jump back on board that project that hasn't made any progress since he left it.
When it comes to remakes like this there's already a built in negativity among fans, so the remake will either end up exceeding their expectations and surprising them, or it's going to end up being crap regardless of who directs it.
The original film starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. The story follows a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize” – immortality.
