SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED Writer Penning Mystery Pixar Film

We don't know for sure who will be directing Star Wars: Episode VII, but earlier this week we found out that it would NOT be Colin Trevorrow, the director of the acclaimed indie hit Safety Not Guaranteed, since he and screenwriter Derek Connolly will be tackling a remake of Disney's Flight of the Navigator instead.

But that's not the only thing that Connolly has been working on lately. Ever since the time travel comedy made a big impression at Sundance (it'll likely end up on my favorites of the year list), Connolly has been working with the creative minds at Pixar on...something. Variety reports that Connolly made the move up to Pixar's Emeryville campus to write a screenplay for a film that we know nothing about. Germain at Slashfilm points out that there are four projects in development that we know are actually happening at Pixar: Monsters University in 2013, The Good Dinosaur in 2014, Up director Pete Docter's untitled movie about the mind, and Lee Unkrich's Day of the Dead film, and both of those last two don't have release dates yet. (Finding Nemo 2 is also in the mix, but not officially confirmed by Pixar yet.)

So what does this mean? We're not quite sure yet, but it'll likely be a few years before we find out what this movie even is and then another year or two after that before it finally hits theaters. All this waiting is tough, but a Pixar film from the writer of one of the year's best films will certainly be worth it. Time for some wanton speculation: what do you think this movie could be about? Do you think we'll see Pixar's first time travel film?
