If leaked titles for foreign language films don't get you excited, I don't know what will. What's that? Literally anything else? Give us a break though, it's Thanksgiving, news is slow, and us animation fans will eat this up. Though these films aren't officially announced, the titles were leaked after Studio Ghibli's Japanese distributor registered domain names for the films.
The new Hayao Miyazaki film will be titled Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises). The World War II set story centers on the man who designed the Zero Fighter plane for Japan.
The new film from Isao Takahata is called Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari (Princess Kaguya Story). The movie will be based on the Japanese folk tale, "Tale of the Bamboo Cutter."
Both films are somewhat related to the directors' past work. According to /Film Miyazaki has stated that this new film, whose source material features anthropomorphized pigs, will be related to Porco Rosso. Meanwhile, the "Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" was referenced in Takahata's 1999 film, My Neighbors the Yamadas.
In other Ghibli related news, GKIDS has picked up the rights to Takahata's 1988 film, Grave of the Fireflies, and plans to re-release the film next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of its original release.
