Peter Jackson has always ended his Middle Earth films with a great song that plays during the end credits. The song for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes from singer/songwriter Neil Finn of the New Zealand band Crowded House, and it's called "Song of the Lonely Mountain". I think the song turned out great! There's a lot of cool layers to it, it really captures the feel of Middle Earth, and the story of The Hobbit.
The song is available to listen to over at Rolling Stone, and here's what Finn had to say to them in an interview:
‘The Song of the Lonely Mountain’ was developed from a dark and mysterious theme which the dwarves sing early in the movie. After some days of mining underground (actually, in Peters office) I emerged with the song, then set about recording it with my sons Elroy and Liam. Dave Fridmann came in at the end with a bold mix. He seemed to respond well to my demands for ‘more anvil!’ Pop music needs more anvil!
