THE HOBBIT Might Become a Trilogy!? Jackson Discusses Tone

Director Peter Jackson has already completed production on his two Hobbit films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. We now have learned from Jackson himself, there's a possibility we will end up seeing a third Hobbit movie! Jackson shot plenty of additional footage that could be used in a third film, and right now Warner Bros. is actually considering it! The studio owns the rights to the appendices from The Lord Of The Rings which would allow for Jackson to build on what he already has. Jackson recently did an interview with Collider in which Jackson told them,

Well, it’s very, very premature.  We have got incredible source material with the appendices.  There’s the novel, but then we also have the rights to use the 125 pages of additional notes where Tolkien expanded the world of The Hobbit.  We’ve used some of that so far, and just in the last few weeks, as we’ve been wrapping up the shooting and thinking about the shape of the story, Philippa [Boyens], Fran [Walsh] and I have been talking to the studio about other things that we haven’t been able to shoot and seeing if we could possibly persuade them to do a few more weeks of shooting.  We’d probably need more than a few weeks, actually, next year.  The discussions are pretty early, so there isn’t anything to report, but there are other parts of the story that we’d like to tell, that we haven’t had the chance to tell yet.  We’re just trying to have those conversations with the studio, at the moment.

How freakin' cool is that! It would be so awesome if the studio decided to role forward with a third Hobbit film! Why they hell wouldn't they want to do it? Personally I think it's a great idea, and I hope it ends up happening! If they do move forward with it, Jackson would need to go back into production for another few weeks. The director then went on to talk about the tone of the film saying,

… we basically used more source material than just The Hobbit.  For instance, in The Hobbit, when Gandalf mysteriously disappears for chapters, it’s never really explained, in any detail, where he’s gone.  Much later, Tolkien fleshed those moments out.  In these appendices, he did talk about what happened, and it was a lot darker and more serious than what’s written in The Hobbit.  Also, to be quite honest, I want to make a series of movies that run together, so if any crazy lunatic wants to watch them all in a row, there will be a consistency of tone.  I don’t want to make a purely children’s story, followed by The Lord of the Rings.  We are providing a balance.  A lot of the comedy and the charm and the fairytale quality of The Hobbit comes from the characters.  You are dealing with Bilbo Baggins, who is a little more reluctant, possibly, to go on an adventure than Frodo was.  You’re dealing with dwarves who have a personality and a comradery, all of their own.  There’s a lot of humor and a lot touch to be gained from those characters, but there’s still some serious themes involved.  Hopefully, The Hobbit films will comfortably straddle both worlds.

I loved the footage of the film that was shown at Comic-Con this year! It got me incredibly excited for the film. Sure he didn't show it in 48 frames-per-second or in 3D, but it was still awesome! Jackson had his reasons. First off, the things they show in 3D in Hall H look crappy. Secondly, he wanted the fans to talk about the footage they saw in the film and not the frame rate, which is what everyone focused on at CinemaCon. Here's what he told Deadline,

I went on the internet to see what people thought of the first footage of The Hobbit. And nobody was commenting on the footage, good or bad. Everyone had opinions about the 48 frames. You had the film purists saying, this doesn’t look like cinema, it doesn’t look like film. Well, no, it doesn’t, it’s completely different. Those negative comments were getting picked up and spun around the world by all the bloggers. I didn’t want to risk that at Comic-Con. I wanted people to look at the actors, at the performance, the story, and I didn’t want Comic-Con stories to be all about 48 frames. Especially when it’s only a 12 minute clip reel and it’s in Hall H in a convention center, and not even in a cinema. The 3D looks like crap in that hall, so I wasn’t going to be screening 3D. I just wanted the focus to be the movie.

Fact of the matter is, fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are going to love this movie! Jackson isn't going to let us down, and hopefully he gets to make that third film! Would you like to see a third Hobbit movie in his Middle Earth series?

New DARK KNIGHT RISES TV Spots - Countdown and Critics

$

Warner Bros. has released a couple of new TV spots for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises! One of them gives us a four day countdown, and the other is a critic spot that features quotes from several different media outlets. Both of them have a little bit of new footage added, but nothing spoilerish. The movie finally arrives in theaters on July 20th, and I'm ready to see the epic conclusion! Are you?

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

Badass PUNISHER Short Film with Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman!

Back in 2004 Thomas Jane played Frank Castle in The Punisher, and to this day it's still the best Punisher movie that's been made. It didn't do very well at the box office, but another film was later made that wasn't as good. I thought Jane made a great Punisher, and now he's back!

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Jane debuted a badass short Punisher film that he made with none other than Ron Perlman called Dirty Laundry. Here's what he had to say about the short...

I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.

Some might think that he made the short to try and get another feature film made, with him back in the lead role. He was asked about this on Twitter and he replied saying,

Not pushing anything. Just a fan film from Friends of Frank.

The short turned out pretty damn awesome! I'll also point out that it's not safe for work, it's got bad language and some hardcore violence. You're going to enjoy this!

Bugatti unveiled a concept for a luxury spaceship over the weekend at Comic Con and it looks pretty slick! It only makes sense as the first few years of private space travel will only be reserved for the wealthy to make such a high end ride to look fly in whilst you cruise the exosphere. I would love to see some other concepts for vehicles in space! Photos courtesy of GT Spirit!

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - Reviews Are Out!

The Dark Knight Rises comes out this Friday on July 20th, and the first reviews of the film are starting to role in! I'm actually very surprised to see that there's mixed reviews, some of the critics thought the film had some problems. The movie also got some very positive reviews as well. None of these reviews sway my insane excitement for the movie, and I still think it's going to be an incredible film!

I've gathered together snippets from several reviews of the film from around the net for you to read. Check them out and let us know if they've changed your opinion of the film that you've built up in your head.

Empire

...He raised the bar so high, no-one could be expected to clear it. Still, whether you believe this betters Begins or eclipses Knight, it is certainly a satisfying conclusion to what is now — we’re calling it — the best superhero series of all time.

As ever, Nolan’s Batman is at its best in the more intimate moments — whether it’s a man finally realising a hero’s identity, or the scene- (and jewellery-) stealing introduction of a new character. As slinky burglar Selina Kyle, Anne Hathaway is superb: physically dangerous, emotionally intriguing and sexy without milking it. (It’s a very different take from the Catwoman portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer, but no less enjoyable.) As ambiguous as Kyle is, her journey shares with Wayne’s a sense of struggling for a fresh start, for a clean slate, ultimately for redemption.

With spectacle in abundance and sexiness in (supporting) parts, this is superhero filmmaking on an unprecedented scale. Rises may lack the surprise of Begins or the anarchy of Knight, but it makes up for that in pure emotion. A fitting epitaph for the hero Gotham deserves.

Hitfix:

We may never see superhero films quite like these again, and that's fine. Nolan had something special to say with his time in the trenches, and he's ended on his own terms. I suspect that the reaction to the film will be hotly divided, but I'm firmly on the side that this is a triumph, a victory for all involved, and one of the year's most impressive efforts so far in any genre, on any subject. "The Dark Knight Rises" confirms that these films have always had an endgame in mind, and it has been a remarkable ride, one I would not want to follow. Whoever Warner Bros hires to reboot the "Batman" films a few years from now, I wish you luck. The bar is as high as it could possibly be.

Total Film

Is it perfect? Factor in some clunky catch-up exposition near the start, a cringey log-fire love scene and moments where Hans Zimmer's score nearly foghorns the actors off the screen and the answer's no.

An even bigger question: is it up there with The Dark Knight? Not quite. The Joker in the pack still gives part two the edge. But there's no shame in coming second to Nolan's Michael Mann with masks masterpiece.

And rather than replaying it in your head, you'll be busy agog at Wally Pfister's cinematography (the harsh beauty of the city under snow); the seamless interweave of genres (police thriller, disaster movie, psychodrama); how Nolan implies brutality without riling the censor; or the equally sly way he slips in possibly controversial elements from the Bat-mythos without risking outrage.

Spider-Man 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, Blade: Trinity… third time's often the harm for superhero movies. Not on Nolan's watch.

Coming Soon:

Trying to pile so many ideas into the first hour leads to an incredibly convoluted plot set-up that's all over the place as it introduces new characters like Joseph Gordon-Levitt's police officer, whose first meeting with Wayne seems as forced as his later romance with Marion Cotillard's Miranda Tate, something that comes from out of left field and may not have been necessary. It takes a long time for the existence and purposes of these characters to become clear, making the first half of the movie that much more frustrating.

The story isn't quite as solid as "The Dark Knight" and the main villains aren't quite as memorable, but having a director with such a strong vision and conviction to fulfill it makes Nolan's Batman finale pay off at least as a bookend to "Batman Begins" even if it may require quite a bit more patience than both previous films.

Variety:

Few blockbusters have borne so heavy a burden of audience expectation as Christopher Nolan's final Batman caper, and the filmmaker steps up to the occasion with a cataclysmic vision of Gotham City under siege in "The Dark Knight Rises." Running an exhilarating, exhausting 164 minutes, Nolan's trilogy-capping epic sends Batman to a literal pit of despair, restoring him to the core of a legend that questions, and powerfully affirms, the need for heroism in a fallen world. If it never quite matches the brilliance of 2008's "The Dark Knight," this hugely ambitious action-drama nonetheless retains the moral urgency and serious-minded pulp instincts that have made the Warners franchise a beacon of integrity in an increasingly comicbook-driven Hollywood universe. Global B.O. domination awaits.

The Hollywood Reporter:

The real world threats of terrorism, political anarchy and economic instability make deep incursions into the cinematic comic book domain in The Dark Knight Rises. Big-time Hollywood filmmaking at its most massively accomplished, this last installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy makes everything in the rival Marvel universe look thoroughly silly and childish. Entirely enveloping and at times unnerving in a relevant way one would never have imagined, as a cohesive whole this ranks as the best of Nolan's trio, even if it lacks -- how could it not? -- an element as unique as Heath Ledger's immortal turn in The Dark Knight. It's a blockbuster by any standard.

The director daringly pushes the credibility of a Gotham City besieged by nuclear-armed revolutionaries to such an extent that it momentarily seems absurd that a guy in a costume who refuses to kill people could conceivably show up to save the day. This is especially true since Nolan, probably more than any other filmmaker who's ever gotten seriously involved with a superhero character, has gone so far to unmask and debilitate such a figure. But he gets away with it and, unlike some interludes in the previous films, everything here is lucid, to the point and on the mark, richly filling out (especially when seen in the IMAX format) every moment of the 164-minute running time.

Despite all the advanced technology deployed to make The Dark Knight Rises everything it is, Nolan remains proudly and defiantly old school (as only the most successful directors can get away with being these days) when it comes to his filmmaking aesthetic, an approach indicated in a note at the end of the long final credits: “This motion picture was shot and finished on film.

IGN:

The film has several exciting action set-pieces, many of which utilize the aerial vehicle The Bat, but none of which provoke the kind of jaw-dropping reaction that the truck flip did in The Dark Knight. Still, there are enough brawls, chases, and stuff going boom to satisfy hungry action fans. The battle in the streets pitting Bane’s army against Batman and the GCPD is quite a sight to behold in IMAX. Speaking of which, far more of this film was shot in IMAX than The Dark Knight, but the transitions here between full screen IMAX and the almost “letterbox” effect of regular film can be jarring. That said, IMAX really is the best way to watch this movie.

The aforementioned gripes aside, director Christopher Nolan and his team have delivered the grandest, most emotional and superheroic chapter in their Batman saga. The Dark Knight Rises is a fitting emotional and narrative conclusion to this particular interpretation of the enduring story of Bruce Wayne the man and Batman the legend.

The Playlist:

In a season filled with big movies that somehow ask even bigger questions, “The Dark Knight Rises” feels like the superego to its competition’s id. An action opus that manages at to be both viscerally and intellectually engaging, Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated third Batman film comes full circle, examining both the Dark Knight and the society that produced him without sacrificing any of the sweeping thrills for which the series is known. A literate, thoughtful and invigorating finale, “The Dark Knight Rises” delivers everything audiences ask for and then some, albeit in fewer of the ways that they might expect.

If, as Badass Digest argues, “The Avengers” “defeated irony and cynicism,” then “The Dark Knight Rises” feels like the rock-bottom, lowest-point examination of ourselves which provides the substance to make Joss Whedon’s optimistic vision endure. Because Nolan’s film is a reminder that superheroes aren’t merely a frivolous distraction, or even a wish-fulfillment fantasy, but an embodiment of our best selves – or at least what we want our best selves to be. A cinematic, cultural and personal triumph, “The Dark Knight Rises” is emotionally inspiring, aesthetically significant and critically important for America itself – as a mirror of both sober reflection and resilient hope."

VOLTRON Movie is Still in Development!

It's been awhile since we've had a status update on the big screen adaptation of Voltron. But today we've learned from World Event Productions vice president Robert Kopla that it's still is in active development!

It’s currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas. It’s going to be a big action adventure flick and we’re really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it.

Relativity Media officially announced the film last year at Comic-Con, so a year later it's nice to hear that things are still moving forward. Like many of you, I grew up on the original series, and a live action film has the potential to be extremely epic! I hope it's done right, and after seeing what Guillermo del Toro is doing with giant robots in Pacific Rim, I don't see how Voltron can't turn out insanely awesome - unless the script and story sucks, and unfortunately for us, the screenwrters working on the script also wrote that god awful Conan reboot script.

In Voltron, an elite battle force defends the fate of mankind in the spectacular action adventure. Five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of a battalion of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as "Voltron."

You can read the rest of the Voltron interview here. Are you excited about seeing Voltron on the big screen?

A viral type teaser trailer has been released giving us our first look at After Earth, M. Night Shyamalan's new sci-fi film. The movie stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith, and the teaser reveals the fictional history of the universe that the movie is based around. I've also included some footage from the Comic-Con panel, which we didn't attend. I don't get excited or my hopes up for Shyamalan's films anymore. It's been a long time since he's given me something impressive to watch.

Here's the Synopsis:

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

Check out the teaser below and let us know if you think Shyamalan has a solidly good movie on his hands.

Here's some footage from the Comic-Con Panel.

Dwayne Johnson Confirms he Might Play LOBO

A month ago, a big rumor hit the internet that Dwayne Johnson was involved with an upcoming DC Comics movie, and we speculated that he could possibly be up for the part of Lobo, because his Journey 2 director Brad Peyton is directing the movie for Warner Bros.. Johnson himself confirmed these rumors to be true through his Twitter saying...

So there it is... there's a big chance that Lobo will be played by The Rock, and that's a casting decision I can get behind. Do you like the possibility of Johnson taking on the character Lobo?

Anthony Mackie to Play Falcon in CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel

Marvel Studios is prepping to get Captain America: The Winter Solider into production, and they are currently in talks with Anthony Mackie (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) to take on the role of Falcon. He will star along side Chris Evans in the movie, which will obviously follow the storyline from the comics in which Bucky comes back from the dead as a brain-washed super assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

I guess I can see Mackie in this role, he doesn't really seem like the superhero type, but I'm sure that once I see him in costume it will make more sense. The Falcon's real name is Sam Wilson, and he "grew up in a tough Harlem neighborhood. His father, a minister, had been killed trying to stop a fight. Sam did his best to try and do the right thing, but when his mother was killed by a mugger two years later, Sam's grief and anger consumed him. His grief and anger consumed his personality, eventually led him down a criminal path." He eventually changed his ways and ended up fighting alongside Captain America. "He became a social worker in his regular identity, defending the streets of his hometown both in costume and out of it." He derives his powers from a suit which allows him to fly and enhances his strength. He can also telepathically talk to birds. In current comics, Falcon is a key player in many of Cap's espionage adventures.

Marvel put on one hell of a show at Comic-Con this year, and got fans extremely excited for the future of Marvel phase 2 films.

Here's what we know about the Captain America sequel so far...

  • Captain America 2 Takes Place Post-Avengers
  • Captain America 2 Starts Filming In January 2013
  • Steve Rogers Is Still Part Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Captain America Will Have Avengers Backdrop

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 4th, 2014. What do you think about Mackie possibly playing Falcon in the movie?

Then, of course, they have to figure out what to do with it — and their solution is a life of crime. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are assigned the task of stopping them and getting the weapon back." It's like an Avengers meets Bonnie and Clyde kind of thing.

"It's not about beating up criminals one by one. It's about being a symbol. Bruce sees himself as a catalyst for change, and only ever thinks of this as a short-term thing. I talked about this idea a lot with Christian during the making of all the movies; it was the only way we knew to understand the reality of Batman." - Christopher Nolan

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have another series of new photos from The Dark Knight Rises, which opens up this weekend on July 20th! I can't believe it's almost here! The new photos include Batman, Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, Bane, John Blake and more.

Here's the Synopsis:

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.

But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

HELLBOY 3 - Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman are up for it!

Whenever Guillermo del Toro or Ron Perlman have been asked about a third Hellboy film in the past, they made it sound like it would never happen. The filmmaker just didn't seem really all that interested, and Perlman talked about how he wasn't looking forward to sitting around uncomfortably for hours having his make-up done for the role. But that's all changed, they're now both up for doing a third Hellboy movie!

Perlman said in an interview with EW that,

I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3]. The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.

As you recently saw Perlman got back into his Hellboy gear for a Make-a-Wish foundation, which was incredibly cool! He helped grant the dream of a six-year-old boy battling leukemia who just wanted to meet Hellboy. Perlman went on to say,

The make-up artist [with Spectral Motion] was the one who got contacted by the foundation. This kid was watching Hellboy when he was in treatment. [The makeup artist told me] he would like to meet Hellboy. I said, ‘No problem, what day?’ He said, ‘I don’t think you understand. He does not want to meet Ron.’”

Del Toro then explained that this event helped bring himself and Perlman back together to collaborate on a third Hellboy.

I’ve encountered a lot of kids who are fans of the movies, but to hear the story of this kid who was watching the movies while going through treatment, it really just moved me a lot. We’re going to make an effort to do it. I hope it happens.

I think it's needless to say that we all hope it happens as well! Hellboy has been a great movie series to watch, and it's great that both Del Toro and Perlman are finally ready to make a third one!

Vince Vaughn to Star in GUNSLINGERS

Vince Vaughn is set to star in a new western acquired by New Regency called Gunslingers. The pitch came from Braveheart screenwriter Randall Wallace, and as of right now there's not much known about the story. But, here's what we do know according to Deadline, "It’s an action adventure set in modern day Los Angeles, where heroic and iconic characters from the past collide with contemporary urban reality. It’s a movie that explores what real heroism is in a fun and unexpected way. It’s also a two-hander."

There's three great things happening here, first I can see how this could turn out being a modern day western, and I love westerns. Second, Wallace is an incredible screenwriter that has written several great films, so we know the script is going to be solid. Third, Vuaghn is a solid actor, and it would be fun to see him in an action adventure film. He will next be seen in the hilarious looking sci-fi comedy The Watch, and the Stephen Frears-directed Lay the Favorite. He is also shooting the Shawn Levy-directed comedy The Internship.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this Gunslinger movie turns out! Do you think it could be good film? And what's your favorite Vaughn movie?

For those of you who missed the panel for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel at Comic-Con, no need to fear, we have the entire panel here for your viewing pleasure. If you've come looking for the footage shown during the panel, you've come to the wrong place. We don't play like that. But be patient, something very similar to what we were shown will be released in front of The Dark Knight Rises. Be sure to check out our reactions to the WB Panel, the new poster for Man of Steel, and RP McMuurphy's breakdown of the panel.

The panel included director Zack Snyder, and Superman himself, Henry Cavill. There's some hilarious moments in the Q&A portions of the panel. For some reason Snyder seemed way out of it/nervous in the beginning of this. Heck, I would be too. Enjoy!

"If bad girls have more fun, then life as a Disney villain must be a nonstop party."

Disney has teamed up with MAC to create a line of make-up dedicated to the classic Dsiney villainesses. Disney Stores will start selling six limited-edition collectors' dolls and coordinating beauty makeup this coming September. If you're a fan of Disney and enjoy wearing make-up then this is perfect for you!

The line includes...

"Three lip gloss colors are based on three of the baddest women of Disney: Cruella de Vil from the 101 Dalmations, the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and the infamous Evil Queen from Snow White."

"Color your nails with some of the Disney villains' signature hues. The Evil Queen's holographic plum, Mother Gothel's burgundy, and Maleficent's teal are all on trend for Fall."

The ladies have got to have their eyeshadow! "Perfect your evil glare with a swipe of eye shadow. We think a smoky eye look is best for your putrid alternate persona."

Then of course there's the compact mirror. "This small compact features a designer sketch with three of the villainous vixens. Unfortunately, this one does not come with an ego-boosting spirit inside."

I'm a huge fan of The Aquabats. They were the first band I ever saw live, and they will be the last band I see live before I die... maybe. I'm going to try! The band currently completed their first season of a series on the Hub called The Aquabats Super Show, and as of right now it's unsure if we will see a second season. I hope it happens! The first season was extremely fun... and we'll just have to will a second season into existence.

After the panel we attended at Comic-Con we had the opportunity to sit down with the band with a few other press outlets and talk about fighting monsters, kicking ass, music, their fun TV series and several other random bits of craziness.

There might be points in the interview that are hard to hear so turn your volume all the way up. No animals were harmed in the making of this interview. Enjoy, and let us know how long you've been an Aquabats fan for! If you've never heard of The Aquabats or never been to one of their shows, you're missing out!

FRANKENWEENIE - Great Classic Horror Style Poster

A third awesome poster has been released for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, and I absolutely love the classic old-school horror vibe that it has. The footage we saw at the Comic-Con panel seemed to sell a lot of people on this film that were on the fence. But the script is solid, the characters are fun and likable, it has some great humor and it simply looks like a lot of fun. I'm extremely excited about seeing this movie, and I'm hoping it turns out to be a Burton classic.

The movie hits theaters on October 5th, 2012. I've included the latest trailer for you to watch below if you haven't seen it yet! Do you think Burton will win you over with this one? Or do you think it will be a dud?

Here's the details:

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.

In Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

NOTES:

  • When Tim Burton originally conceived the idea for “Frankenweenie,” he envisioned it as a full-length, stop-motion animated film. Due to budget constraints, he instead directed it as a live-action short, released in 1984.
  • “Frankenweenie” follows in the footsteps of Tim Burton’s other stop-motion animated films “Corpse Bride” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas”—both of which were nominated for Academy Awards®.
  • Over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film.
  • The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (“Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands”), Catherine O’Hara (“Beetlejuice,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), Martin Short (“Mars Attacks!”) and Martin Landau (“Ed Wood,” Sleepy Hollow”).
  • Several of the character names—Victor, Elsa Van Helsing, Edgar “E” Gore and Mr. Burgemeister— were inspired by classic horror films.
